Samsung revives the flip phone with high-end features and dual-displays

First the NES Classic, then a redesigned Nokia 3310, now a new Samsung flip phone?

The nostalgia train keeps on rolling with reports that Samsungwill make a new flip phone for its home country of South Korea. The company released a nearly identical device in China earlier this year. The phone, first reported by Koreas ET News via the Investor, will feature two 4.2-inch displays—one where youd expect it to be, and another on the outside of the device. Both of those full HD screens will come with tried-and-true Super AMOLED technology.

The flip phone, named SM-W2017, features more surprisingly high-end specs, including a 12MP rear camera, 5MP front-facing camera, 64GB of storage, and fingerprint scanner. It will also be resistant to water and dust, and its 2,300mAh battery can be charged wirelessly.

The phone could be considered a top-tier device if not for its middling Snapdragon 430 processor.

This wont be the first time Samsung shows us what it would be like if flip phones never died. The company released its Galaxy Folder 2 in September last year, an ordinary-looking flip phone with some modern-day tech.

Earlier this year, a report from the Korea Herald said Samsung would start shipping a foldable smartphone by the end of 2017. Let’s hope this doesn’t count.
