This app turns your smartphone into a virtual ruler
The software company thatmade Face Swap Liveis reinventing the ruler.
Laan Labs just released a demo for AR Measure is an augmented reality appthat turns your smartphone into a virtual ruler or measuring tape. The app uses augmented reality to measure the distance between points in a 3D space using your phones camera.
To use the app, you just point your camera at an object, select your desired starting point, and pull your phone away from it. The app will then automatically calculate the distance between both points. Its kind of like taking a panorama photo, except you’ll be tracing a physical object.
You can see how it works in the demo footage below.
As you can see, the app isnt perfect. The measurements appear a few millimeters off, enough to where you wouldnt want to use this on a home reno. However, it should be fine figuring out if the TV you already bought will fit on your entertainment center.
We dont know exactly when the app will be released, but you should expect AR Measure to launch on iOS sometime this fall.
